Lima is one of South America's most underrated cities. Its 10-million-person sprawl can feel overwhelming on arrival, but the city resolves into distinct, manageable neighbourhoods once you know where to focus. Miraflores and Barranco together form a coastal strip of less than 5 km — walkable, bikeable, and packed with restaurants, museums, and ocean views.
Jorge Chávez International Airport is 20 minutes from Miraflores. Many travellers heading to Cusco, Machu Picchu, or the Amazon pass through Lima — and an overnight or day stop is well worth it. The Urban Bike Tour (4 hours) or Tour Express (2 hours) let you see the highlights without a full day commitment. Both depart at 9:00 AM daily.
Cycling is how locals actually navigate Miraflores. The Malecón has a dedicated bike path running its full length. The streets between Miraflores and Barranco are flat, safe, and largely car-free at the coastal edge. By bike, you cover 4× the ground you would on foot — and reach spots no taxi stops at.
Lima is the gastronomic capital of Latin America. Every Lima Bici tour includes food stops: ceviche, anticuchos (grilled beef heart), empanadas, and seasonal juices. For dinner, the city ranges from world-class tasting menus (Central, Maido, Astrid y Gastón — all ranked in the global top 50) to outstanding neighbourhood cevicherías where a full lunch costs $8.
Lima is a great family destination. Huaca Pucllana (a pre-Inca pyramid in the middle of Miraflores) fascinates children. The Larco Museum has an accessible layout and extraordinary pre-Columbian gold. Our Tour Express (2 hours) and Urban Bike Tour (4 hours) are both suitable for families — we have children's bikes and trailers available.
December to March is Lima's summer: sunny, warm (22–27°C), and ideal for outdoor activities. June to October brings the garúa — a coastal fog that keeps temperatures cool (15–18°C) and is actually excellent for cycling without the heat. Lima is a year-round destination; there is no bad time to visit.
