Understanding Lima Bici's Certifications

What is MINCETUR?

MINCETUR is Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism — the government body responsible for regulating and certifying tourism services across the country. A MINCETUR certification for a tour guide is the Peruvian equivalent of a national professional licence. It requires formal training, written examinations, practical assessments, and regular renewal. Lima Bici is certified at both the guide and operator level, making us one of the very few cycling tour companies in Lima to meet this standard.

Why Safety Protocols Matter

Cycling in a major city carries inherent risks. Lima Bici takes these seriously. Before every tour, we conduct a mandatory safety briefing covering road rules, cycling etiquette, and emergency procedures. Every bike is mechanically inspected — tyres, brakes, gears, and lights — before departure. Helmets are mandatory for all participants with no exceptions. Our guides carry first-aid kits and know the locations of the nearest medical facilities on every route.

Insurance Coverage

All Lima Bici tours include basic group travel insurance for the duration of the activity. This covers accidents and medical emergencies that occur during the tour. We strongly recommend that all participants also carry personal travel insurance for the broader duration of their trip to Peru, as our group coverage is limited to the tour itself.

Our Fleet & Maintenance Standards

Lima Bici maintains a fleet of professionally serviced bicycles. Each bike undergoes a full inspection every 30 days, with immediate repairs for any issues identified during daily pre-tour checks. We use professional-grade bikes — not rental-shop castoffs — with reliable components suited to urban cycling in Lima's terrain. Bikes are fitted to each rider's height before departure, and we carry a small toolkit and spare tubes on every tour for rapid roadside repairs.

Weather Policy

Lima has a mild, dry climate year-round — but occasional fog (garúa) in winter (June–October) and rare rain events can affect cycling conditions. In the event of conditions that make cycling unsafe, Lima Bici will offer a full reschedule at no charge. We never cancel for light fog or overcast skies, which are normal in Lima and do not affect the quality of the tour.

Child Safety

Lima Bici welcomes children on most tours with appropriate size bikes and helmets. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult and are assessed individually for suitability. We carry child-sized helmets and can adjust pace and distance for family groups. Please mention the ages of children in your group when booking so we can prepare accordingly.
